Deep Learning Based HPV Status Prediction for Oropharyngeal Cancer Patients

چکیده

Infection with the human papillomavirus (HPV) has been identified as a major risk factor for oropharyngeal cancer (OPC). HPV-related OPCs have shown to be more radiosensitive and reduced related death. Hence, histological determination of HPV status patients depicts an essential diagnostic factor. We investigated ability deep learning models imaging based detection. To overcome problem small medical datasets, we used transfer approach. A 3D convolutional network pre-trained on sports video clips was fine-tuned, such that full information in CT images could exploited. The model able differentiate HPV-positive from HPV-negative cases, area under receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) 0.81 external test set. In comparison neural (CNN) trained scratch 2D architecture ImageNet, performed best. Deep are capable image-based determination. Video pre-training improve training data, but further studies needed verification.

Cause‐specific mortality in HPV+ and HPV− oropharyngeal cancer patients: insights from a population‐based cohort

Identifying the causes of death in head and neck cancer patients can optimize follow-up and therapeutic strategies, but studies in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) patients stratified by HPV status are lacking. We report cause-specific mortality in a population-based cohort of patients with OPSCC. Patients who had been diagnosed with OPSCC (n = 1541) between 2000 and 2014 in easter...

Novel nomograms for survival and progression in HPV+ and HPV- oropharyngeal cancer: a population-based study of 1,542 consecutive patients

BACKGROUND No study has combined tumour and clinical covariates for survival to construct an individual risk-profile for overall survival (OS), time to progression (TTP), and survival after progression (SAP) in patients with HPV+ and HPV- oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC). Based on the largest-to-date, unselected, population-based cohort of patients diagnosed with OPSCC, we performe...

Impact of HPV in Oropharyngeal Cancer

The incidence of oropharyngeal cancers has increased in the western world and Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) has been recognised as a risk factor in the last decades. During the same period the prevalence of HPV in oropharyngeal tumours has increased and HPV has been suggested responsible for the increase. The HPV-positive tumours are today recognized as a distinct subset of head and neck cancers ...

Prognostic implications of HPV in oropharyngeal cancer.

Identification of human papillomavirus (HPV) as the etiologic agent of cervical cancer has led to its identification in other cancers, with oropharyngeal squamous-cell carcinoma the most common of these.1,2 In this issue of the Journal, Ang and colleagues3 report findings from their study (ClinicalTrials.gov number, NCT00047008) that contribute to the growing body of evidence that HPV-positive ...

The immune response in HPV+ oropharyngeal cancer

Although human papillomavirus (HPV)+ oropharyngeal cancers often present with metastasis, most patients have excellent long-term survival. The reason underlying such an apparent contradiction remains unclear, but we have recently demonstrated that the improved survival of HPV+ oropharyngeal cancer patients has an immunological component, as the levels of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) ca...
